Is this true that artists should not be respected?

my friend just has controversy with me that artists are idiots,as they can not do anything if their are no engineers or scientist,even the paper and the pen they use to write or sketch is made by engineers,so engineers are boss,artists are just those people who don't have skill to become engineer and they get their food because of engineer,actually its a beg from engineers to artists,how to reply him
